A new Story

Tanya was born on the 24th April 1979, the second eldest of four daughters born to Anne and David Savage. She grew up happily in Grange Road, Orpington with her sisters: Ayesha, Cassie and Corinne and was educated at Darrick Wood School. She spent the early years of her adult life by the coast in Southsea, where she worked in retail and eventually went on to specialise in cosmetics. This was the beginning of her successful career in the beauty industry, inspired by her own immense passion for all things beautiful. Whilst living in Southsea, Tanya made many good friends who she remained in contact with and often visited. Tanya was 27 years old when she returned to Orpington to her family home. She went on to work for Selfridges in Central London, for Chanel’s pioneering Maison de Parfum and soon after, was poached by Christian Dior to assume the role of business manager. Tanya was a very loyal and dedicated individual and it is clear that she was held in very high regard by all of her employers. Tanya was sadly diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2011. She was hugely brave throughout this time, and continued to work until July this year . She was surrounded by her family and close friends, who supported and cared for her. Many friends and work colleagues, too numerous to mention individually, have supported Tanya in all sorts of ways with cards, messages, phone calls, letters, parcels and visits. These acts of friendship kept her going, gave her strength and let her know how much she was loved and her family are eternally grateful to all of you for your love and kindness. Tanya cherished these moments with the people she loved. She made a particular effort with her nephews Dylan and Freddie to always be smiling and to be their “fun auntie.” For her birthday the boys adopted her a penguin at London Zoo, Ricky the Rockhopper, this was very special to Tanya as she believed this to be her guardian spirit. Tanya was always immaculately turned out and well presented, even in hospital she looked better than her visitors! A couple of days before she passed she was relaxing in her flat on the couch, her hair was done complete with a little bow, and her make up was perfectly in place, as radiant as a classic film star. Anne and David had helped her to purchase a flat, a place of her own, they had helped to decorate it and get it ready for her and Tanya had put in the soft furnishings and put all her photos out, it looked like a show flat and she was so happy and calm there but sadly only got to spend three nights in her lovely home. The family are so pleased that she was well enough to attend and fully participate in Cassie and Dave’s wedding, as the Maid of Honour; Tanya was always thinking of others and didn’t want to let her sister down on her big day. It will always be a special memory for all the family. Tanya was stunningly beautiful and elegant, she was fun and loved life, she could be cheeky, and could stand up for herself when the situation demanded it. She was a good, loyal friend and was also honest with them. Tanya was never afraid of dying but was concerned for her family and what they would have to go through. She was incredibly brave throughout the whole experience and her family are so very proud of her. Tanya found inspiration in the quotation: “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly”, so in June she decided to have a unique tattoo symbolising the family and how precious life is. She asked each of her family to choose an individual butterfly, and then created a design of six fluttering butterflies. For Tanya, this meant wherever she was going they would all be together and she would never be alone.
